JOWY Productions invites you to Wedding Wednesdays: Spring on Spring!

April has arrived! Easter and Passover have come and gone and while we had some really hot days at the beginning of the year, we are still waiting for the warmer weather (less gloom) to come our way in, supposedly, "Sunny California!"  We think Punxsutawney Phil may have been wrong this year but the cooler weather hasn't stopped us from dreaming about all things Spring. Here are a few things inspiring us this month as we try to be patient about Spring's late debut.

JOWY Productions invites you to Wedding Wednesdays: Champagne Coupes

Once in awhile there is a wedding trend that you hope will stick around for awhile.  And for us, that trend is champagne coupes.

Starting with Marie Antoinette in the 1600's until the 1960's, the coupe was the preferred glass from which to sip Champagne.  As a matter of fact, this shallow, saucer shaped glass had as much screen time as Humphrey Bogart did in the 1942 movie Casablanca.  The coupe was synonymous with elegance, money and class.  Its popularity began to wane in the early 70's and was replaced with the flute style glass which is mostly what we see used today.

Over the past few years, we have seen the coupe come back in style at weddings and parties and we could not be happier.  It looks prettier on a table, it is easier to tray pass around a party (we think of these things, we are party planners after all) and it holds a little over 8 ounces of Champagne vs. a flute's mere 6 ounces.  Who doesn't love more Champagne!

Now experts will tell you that a coupe allows the bubbles to dissipate too quickly but we take that to mean we will just need to sip ours a little faster!

We would love to hear your opinion?  Coupe or flute? Let us know in the comments below.

JOWY Productions invites you to Wedding Wednesdays: Succulents of So Cal

Living in the unique landscape of Southern California we have access to most things year round: berries, pineapples, citrus, tulips and sunshine.  Yet, sometimes when designing, a fresh approach can be to go local and utilize what is native to the area.  This season, we find ourselves drawn to succulents...either by themselves or mixed with florals.  The wonderful thing about these is that they can be replanted at the end of an event, which also makes succulents eco-friendly.

Here are some inspirational and interesting ways to incorporate succulents into a wedding.

What do you think? Would you ever think to use succulents at your wedding? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

JOWY Productions invites you to Wedding Wednesdays: The Calm Before The Storm!

Happy March! We are excited that Spring is on the horizon.  We are having odd weather in Southern California this year and we cannot wait for winter to be behind us (good luck to the east coasters today and tonight with the storm!)!

March is the month most wedding planners get a breather before "wedding season" arrives.  We always enjoy this time; it’s the calm before the storm.  As we gear up for our Spring and Summer weddings, here are a few of the things that are inspiring us this month.

JOWY Productions invites you to Wedding Wednesdays: Pom Poms!

In the forties and fifties, attaching pom poms to the bride and groom's wedding car as they drove away signaled to everyone who saw them that they just got married.  Often, the pom poms would be accompanied by a sign that read "Just Married". We think this tradition is just precious enough to bring back this summer; we have seen pom poms, in general, re-emerging as a décor trent for baby and wedding showers and some birthday parties too (even weddings).

The truth is that pom poms are easy to make on your own and can be fastened to the car using suction cups.  See below for instructions.  You'll need tissue paper, twine and some scissors to make these darling decorations come to life!

HOW TO:

1.For one pom-pom, you'll need four 6-by-9 1/2 inch pieces of issue paper (if you'd like multi-colored pom-poms, use patterned paper or sheets in different colors.

2. Stack Paper; fold accordion-style, making 3/4 inch folds.

3. Snips ends into points; tie middle with twine.

4. To make a garland, tie the flat pom-poms together with twine.

5. Tie on suction cups where needed and affix cups to car

6. When you're ready to decorate the car, fluff out each pom-pom
