Wedding Wednesday-December Inspiration

"Just hear those sleigh bells jingling...", okay, while it's not exactly sleigh bell weather in Los Angeles, we were experiencing a nice cold and rainy front last week and still have a chill in the air at the moment. It feels like the perfect way to usher in December and the start of the holiday season. We can't wait to wrap presents and share holiday eggnog with friends and family. In between planning a holiday party, or two, or three (three THIS weekend), here is what is currently inspiring us at JOWY this December.

{The Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center}

{Cookie Swap - we can't wait to host one this year}

{Homemade gingerbread advent calendar - yum!}

{A festive table complete with presents}

{The Empire State Building on the first night of Hannukah-what we envision for Saturday, Decmeber 8th}

What's inspiring you this season?  Share with us below.

We would also love to hear any cookie recipes you want to share!

Happy Holidays!

Wedding Wednesday, Thanksgiving Special: Bountiful Centerpieces

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!!!

We here at JP are pretty excited about Thanksgiving today. We have had an incredible year, full of beautiful events and wonderful clients. We have so much to be grateful for.  As you can imagine, one of our favorite things about Thanksgiving is setting the table.  This year we are embracing a more organic look and are incorporating fruits and vegetables into our centerpieces.  It may sound strange, but we assure you, it can be quite beautiful and lush.  We also think this look is perfect for a garden wedding or a vibrant autumnal themed nuptial.  See some of our favorites below

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We are thankful for you!

Tell us what you are thankful for in the comments below.

Wedding Wednesday: Fall la la la la

We hear that Fall has arrived right on time for most of you in the U.S. We are so eager for Fall weather, boots, flowers and pumpkin everything!  Unfortunately, here in LA we have been struck with warmer then average temperatures which has kept us in sandals and sundresses longer then we care for.  No one should be wearing a sundress in October!

To trick our minds into "feeling" like Fall we have been rummaging through Fall decor catalogs and Pinterest boards until we can pull out our own Fall garb and bake pies without having to turn on the air conditioner.  One thing we all agree on, in our office, is that wreaths of any kind are the epitome of Fall decor.  Here are some ways we love to use wreaths for a Fall wedding.

{Escort card holders}

{As a ceremony focal point - the bride and groom can stand under this during their vows}

{An idea for ceremony chair decor to create a festive touch on the backs of chairs)

{Personalized initial wreaths - wonderfully personal for the reception area on the guest book table}

{Decorative entry pieces to the reception to set the tone}

We would love to hear your thoughts! Leave a comment below!

Wedding Wednesday: Non-Traditional Wedding Cakes

We love a spectacular wedding cake as a focal point of a couple's reception, yet, a conventional wedding cake isn't the only way to go. Recently, we have seen a sharp turn away from "traditional" cakes to more personalized desserts that truly illuminate the uniqueness of a couple.  If you and your significant other are not into “the wedding cake” or you simply don't like cake there are plenty of other options for your special day.

We had one couple choose a French croquembouche cake for their reception.  This is a traditional French dessert made of chocolate and cream filled profiteroles piled high into a cone shaped pyramid and bound together using threads of caramelized sugar.  It can be decorated with flowers or ribbon or chocolate ganache and is not only stunning but quite tasty.

Another couple was obsessed with donuts, they even named their dog after the fried dough confectionery! So for their wedding, we constructed a "cake" made out of donuts! It was the talk of the reception.

Other options for your reception could be:

Mini Cakelets - which are just smaller versions of a larger wedding cake.  They can be simple or quite elaborate.

A Cupcake Cake - use a tiered cake stand and fill it with beautifully decorated cupcakes.

Macaroon Cake - macaroons are having quite a moment right now. They are small baked cookies that are created in an elaborate variety of colors and flavors.

Whatever dessert you choose to serve on your wedding day, we hope you will make it unique and meaningful to the two of you as a couple! It’s YOUR wedding…do whatever makes you happy!

If you have had a non-traditional wedding cake or have other ideas of alternative “cakes” we would love to hear about it in the comments below!
