Wedding Wednesdays: Food For Thought: What Are You Favoring?

Wedding favors are a tradition given to guests by the bride and groom as a sign of gratitude. For centuries, almonds were gifted to guests; traditionally five Jordan almonds are given to signify health, wealth, happiness, longevity and fertility. (Did you know that??)

These days, the gifting of almonds in a pretty mesh bag seems to be a thing of the past. The big question is: what do you gift your wonderful guests in 2012? Right now, we love the idea of "food favors," whether it be milk and cookies for the ride home or homemade maple syrup in glass bottles to be enjoyed at your next sunday brunch. See below for the "food favors" we are favoring at the moment:

Wednesday Weddings: Color Palette

Weather we have to thank the fashion industry’s return to elegance or a public, on-air wedding (for a short lived marriage), we are embracing and loving the black and white color palette as a large wedding trend for 2012. Previously saved for very formal weddings, couples are now using black and white in unique, modern and playful ways.

While a black and white color scheme is relatively simple to implement, it requires a delicate balance so that one color does not overpower the other. Incorporating textures and patterns in the linens can help create individuality and balance. Or add dimension to the scheme by adding in tints of grey or silver

Incorporate black and white in your bridal party while eschewing a black tie required dress code.

Bouquets can be the trickiest part of a black and white wedding. You could go with all white florals but most brides are looking for something more extraordinary. Utilizing florals and jewels to create contrasting bouquets can create a brilliant bouquet that is timeless and personal.

Corresponding china, florals and flatware can create spectacular tablescapes that are light and fresh.

  • Create a strong look by alternating menus or napkins (black for men and white for women).
  • Use a mix of clear crystal votives and glassware with black crystal goblets and china.
  • Pick a low white centerpiece and offset the formality by hanging whimsical mobiles of black and white doves over each table.

To create an atmosphere that is both enchanting and informal choose a mix of square and round tables with high and low centerpieces. If you are going for more formality try using extra long dining tables.

There is something so distinct about this particular color palette. It can be formal and classic or modern and bold but it always cries romance.

How do you feel about a black and white wedding?

As you can imagine, we love the holidays at JOWY Productions! We host tree trimming parties, participate in cookie swaps and even groove to Christmas songs in the car.
