Wedding Wednesday: Looking Good On The Dance Floor

Over this past Labor Day weekend, we created a gorgeous wedding that was one and a half years in the making and beyond memorable for all of those invited and involved.

When we first started the planning process, our client came to us with a dance floor image that she loved.  She wanted to create something similar for her wedding and use it as the focal point for the reception.  We worked with our graphic designer to come up with a similar motif for the floor and presented the bride with several design options and played with the coloration—the positive and negative space. After a few rounds of revisions, she selected a beautiful floral design with an grey and white coloration. The art deco shape and the dramatic contrasts in color made the floor graphic timeless.

Once the floral pattern was confirmed, we had the design laser cut (each flower petal was cut individually and in two pieces) out of a material called GAMfloor.  GAMfloor is a vinyl material that bonds to surfaces using an adhesive backing. It comes in a variety of colors and finishes.  We chose a glossy grey/pewter dance floor which was painted to the bride's "perfect" color.

When it was time for the installation, we called on Lewis Barker's from Barker Decor for their expertise.  We worked closely with his team to see it laid out piece by piece.  For us, overseeing the install was imperative, as we and Lewis Barker's team had never created anything like it before. Therefore, we wanted to make sure the design was centered on the surface, that the petals were evenly distributed and the same width and that everything was perfectly placed before adhering the design to the surface.  The entire process took about 8 hours inclusive of delivery, assembling the dance floor and adhering the GAM precisely.

Creating this unique, one-of-a-kind, dance floor gave the bride what she wanted, a focal point for the reception that was completely personalized, unique and stunning.  We are super proud and happy with the outcome!
